Sue Sue

Last night I tried my best to call my friend Sue
I didn’t have anything better to do
But not even once could I get through
It could be she’s sick with a dose of the flu
But I feel I’m being ignored, it seems to be true
But as to why that would be I haven’t a clue
All I know is that it’s making me blue
So today I took action, and right on cue
To pay Sue back was rightfully due
My attorney said “She won’t chat with you?
We’ll fix her little wagon, let’s sue Sue,

After which her dollars will be only a few”
Her cute face then would turn a bright red hue
And she would stick to me like Elmer’s glue
Sue’s not like some dumb monkey from the zoo
Surely she wouldn’t want a law suit to ensue
I’ll bet she’ll talk with me now. . . . Wouldn’t you?

Poet’s Note:   It won’t surprise you to learn this

poem is written in a style known as “monorhyme”,

relatively common in Latin and Arabic languages,

but very rarely, if ever, seen in English. I readily

admit it’s a silly poem, hope it was fun for you

to read.

  1. Poor Sue - just because she didn’t answer your calls, she gets
sued. LOL No kidding though, I feel like I would like to sue
some of these telephone marketers who keep pestering me
if that wouid just stop their calls.
It is a fun little ditty and rhyming each line is no easy task.
Do you think Sue may file a counter-suit? Another LOL!

Hi, Edie, and welcome back to “the mine”!

I know just what you mean by telephone marketers. You can, of course, put yourself on the “no call” list, but, for whatever reason, that seems to deter some but not all.

I’m pleased you had fun with this nonsensical poem, but now you have me concerned about a counter-suit, likely for telephone harassment lol.

As always, thanks much for your comment/compliment.

Please hurry back soon, a brand new poem is almost ready to be mined.

  2. A fun read on another American trait. When you want to get someones attention just sue.

It may be a silly poem but it is not that far from being the truth about litigation in America.

    Great work, keep them coming.

Great to see you again, David!

I agree with your nice comment. It would be interesting to know the percentage of
civil law suits in the US that are filed on purely trivial matters, clogging up the judicial
system. My guess is it would be a much higher percentage than we would like to believe.

Thanks again for the comment, your visit, and loyal readership.
I’ll make a deal with you. . .I’ll keep ‘em coming, and you keep coming back to “the mine”.
I’ll be posting a new poem no later than this Saturday, Nov. 15, and I’ll keep an eye out
    for you.

Hi, Brigitte, great to see you back at ‘the mine”!

I’m glad you enjoyed this unusual poem written in the seldom
seen “monoryhme” scheme. I like to use a wide variation of
different rhyme styles, as well as prose, just to be sure I can lol.
Actually, I think an array of different poetry techniques and topics
that won’t be found elsewhere adds to the appeal of poetrymine.
At least I hope so, that’s what I strive for.

Thanks much for being such a loyal reader and commenter. I’ll be
posting a fresh new poem within the next couple of days, not
later than 11/14/08, so you don’t have to wait long for the next,
and I’ll be looking for you.
